The most common connection type these days is USB type. Almost all new Receipt Printers purchased will be USB type.
The older type of connection is a Serial connection. Most modern PCs no longer have Serial connection ports.
Sometimes a salon owner with an old Serial Receipt Printer still wants to use it on their modern PC.
They will often purchase a Serial to USB adaptor or cable. These are not recommended as they are not reliable and we cannot guarantee that they will work.
USB Type
USB Receipt Printers normally have a USB Type B port on the back. This is a somewhat blocky looking small connection. The end that connects to the PC will be the standard USB Type A.
USB TYPE-B to USB TYPE-A cable shown below.
Serial Type
Serial type Receipt Printers are normally older models.
The connection looks like a long horizontal connection with 2 plastic screws on either side.
Below are images of Serial type cables.
Serial to USB Cable
There is also a cable that will convert from Serial Type to USB Type
This has a Serial type connection that plugs into the back of the Receipt Printer.
The other end of the cable plugs into the USB port on the PC.
These cables normally come with a driver USB memory stick or CD.
Sometimes Windows will have a built in or generic driver that works with them too.
Below are images of Serial to USB cables.
LAN/Ethernet Type
Sometimes it is possible to connect the Receipt Printer with a LAN or Ethernet Cable. (They are different names for the same thing)
This is very rare and generally doesn't come up.
An Ethernet cable is a standard cable used for internet connections and network connections.
Below in an image of Ethernet cables.
To finish out this brief overview there are also Parallel Type connections however they are extremely rare so most likely will not come up.
